PTH

An intact PTH is the most frequently ordered parathyroid hormone test. It is ordered to help diagnose the reason for a low or high calcium level and to help distinguish between parathyroid-related and non-parathyroid-related causes. A PTH test may be ordered when a test for calcium is abnormal.

Test Requirements

Blood sample.
Since PTH levels vary during the day, samples are usually collected about 8AM. Current practices do not require fasting.

Preparation for Your Test

Wear a short sleeved shirt or a shirt with sleeves that roll up easily.

Cost

The cost of this test is $40.00.
